Attention all Student Woodwind, Brass and Percussion players! Here is your chance to:

If you are a woodwind, brass or percussionist aged 23 and younger, we invite you to take part in the 12th Annual Pacific Symphonic Wind Ensemble Youth Soloist Competition. The competition has three phases:

• Phase One - All candidates audition on a solo piece of their choice, that has wind ensemble accompaniment (see attached syllabus for recommendations), on March 13, 2014. This will be approximately 12 minutes or less - one movement is acceptable. This live audition should be performed with piano accompaniment. All soloists will receive detailed feedback from an adjudication panel on their performance musically, technically, and in regards to stage deportment.
• Phase Two - Up to three candidates will be selected for the finalist round on April 17, 2014 with the Pacific Symphonic Wind Ensemble. After a brief rehearsal, the candidate will perform the piece straight through, and it will be professionally recorded on video. Students may invite family and friends to this working rehearsal. All candidates will receive feedback from the conductor and PSWE coaches.
• Phase Three - One candidate will be selected to perform their piece with the Pacific Symphonic Wind Ensemble in a regular season concert, either June 7, 2014 or in one of four concerts during the 2014/15 concert season. This concert will also be professionally recorded so that the winner has a keepsake of their performance that may be used for their musical resumes (and proud family members).
• The winner also receives a scholarship of $500.
